Abstract
Certificate is a written or printed sign or statement (statement) from an authorized person that can be used as proof of ownership or an event. There is a problem that occurs in the process of validating the authenticity of a certificate such as the certificate maker's contact is no longer available, the validation process cannot be carried out so it cannot be known whether the certificate shown is a genuine certificate or a fake certificate. To overcome this problem is to build a system that can be used to check the authenticity of a certificate. In this study, the validation process focused on the New Student Study Orientation (OSMB) certificate found at the Potential Utama University. The aim is to simplify the OSMB certificate validation process and prevent counterfeiting of OSMB certificates at Potential Utama University. Where the OSMB certificate can be validated for authenticity via a QR Code based on the certificate code. This is to simplify the process of validating the generated OSMB certificate. The OSMB certificate validation system can still be faked and made by parties who understand how to generate a QR Code on a certificate. Therefore, additional security techniques are needed using cryptographic techniques. In this study, the cryptographic algorithm that will be used is the Beaufort algorithm. Beaufort is a classic cryptography that is quite popular. Beaufort is a variant of the Vigenere cipher method.
